9th District Fall Event

Author: Linda Brown-Price

Planning Unit: Administration - Cooperative Extension Service

Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General

Outcome: Initial Outcome

In my role as a volunteer on the 9th District Advisory Council a request was made by Jullie Muenhlenkamp, 21st Century Community Learning Coordinator, to host a fall event for 60 limited resource youth that normally do not get to experience fall events such as hayrides, pumpkin painting, and hay mazes.  Collaborating with other Kenton County Agents: Agriculture, Horticulture, and Family and Consumer Sciences the event was planned and executed. Each youth had the opportunity to paint and take home a pumpkin, learn how to make a nutritious snack, have their photo taken and placed on a magnet to be placed on refrigerator at home. Each participant also was able to take home some fruit as well as a treat.

Personal observations on the day of the event showed the youth were excited to be able to take home their painted pumpkin to show, excited to taste some new snacks and appreciative of the event.

Verbal feedback from the counselor Julie  included” I cannot thank you enough.  You and Dan were so generous to donate your time and all of those items.  The students talked about the trail mix all week, and the parents LOVED the pumpkins! It was a great experience, thank you so much.”

Further collaborations are being planned for future events.
