Plan of Work: Developing Responsible Youth and Families--2020

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Cooking club has started back in -person with a bunch of eager youth. This program has created youth and adult partnerships,as well as a young   entrepreneur. Coly Amburgery is a 14 year old young man that since starting in the first cooking club and super star chief in Letcher County nine years ago when I became the 4-H agent. Colby has a passion for baking cakes, breads, and pies. In January Letcher COunty had the pleasure of Governor Andy Brashear's making a visit to Letcher County for the City of WHitesburg Farmer's Market Meeting. At that time Letcher County was awarded money for the Farmer's Market and Cowan Community Center. During the visit the Governor has able to meet young entrepreneurs that sold at the market along with farmer's and other vendors of the market.  This was when Colby's hard work paid off for him in a big way! Colby made his very own Chocolate Chip Cookies for the event. The cookies where a hit. So once we finally got to meet face-to-face and hybrid for those that could not be in person from Covid, the first recipe that the cooking club made was Colby's Chocolate Chip Cookies. In attendance was 22 youth in total and 7 adult volunteers, 9 youth attended hybrid via zoom. This was a great lesson taught by a young man that at one time was so shy an now is able to stand and speak in front of his peers, young 4-hers, adults, and the Governor! What a testament that is is to 4-H and what e can do for the youth that we work with. When Colby told me that he was able to have the courage and public speaking skills thanks to 4-H it made it all come to light for me. THe past several years have been a struggle due to Covid.
