The Fleming County Extension Office Family and Consumer Sciences Agent position has been vacant since January 2021. In adapting to the circumstances to see that the clientele are still reached, the agents decided to host a Cooking Through the Calendar Program for 2022. The program began in February and is scheduled for each month through December. Sessions are hosted at noon at the Extension Office as well as monthly at the Senior Center.
The February session was in collaboration with the Fleming County Extension Homemaker's Heart Health program. With the first hour discussing Heart Health and the 2nd half being the demonstration of the Eggroll in a Bowl recipe by the ANR Agent, April Wilhoit. Folks that attended the demo at the Extension Office and at the Senior Center all enjoyed the recipe and many had plans on fixing the recipe again.
The March session included the demonstration of the January and March recipes, led by ANR Agent, April Wilhoit, as well as incorporation of easy exercises to do at home, which was led by 4-H Agent, Staci Thrasher. Samples of the March recipe were sent to Senior Center later that day for sampling. Clientele that sampled the Zucchini and Carrot Bar recipe enjoyed the recipe and many had plans to make it for Easter.
