Planning Unit: Butler County CES
Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
Butler County is 82% below Supplemental Nutrition Education Program threshold at 200 percent poverty, thus serving as a prime example of food insecurity in America. The Butler County Nutrition Education Program Assistant partnered with The Morgantown Mission, and The Butler County Family Resource Center to offer nutrition education classes at The Morgantown Mission Food Pantry.
Four two-hour sessions were led by the NEP assistant where Healthy Choices for Every Body was taught. The sessions also qualified participants for Toys for Tots by Family Resources, and The Morgantown Mission provided grocery items for each that attended to prepare the recipe demonstrated. Eight of the Thirteen participants completed the program with 63% indicated they now plan meals before shopping, 50% use a monthly or weekly spending plan, and 40% showed an overall improvement in resource management.
The Butler County Nutrition Education Program Assistant collaborated with two community partners to increase knowledge and provide resource management skills to Butler County residents.
