Outcome: Initial Outcome

The December 10, 2021 EF four tornado demonstrated both the worst and the best. The worst was obviously the devastation to property and the loss of life caused by the tornado. The best was demonstrated by so many volunteers from Muhlenberg and other counties from across the commonwealth as well as the nation coming in to help their fellow human being. Volunteers that this agent worked with picked up debris, utilized their privately owned equipment to demolish and remove structures and fences that were damaged beyond repair. Volunteers also reconstructed fences and farm structures in a relatively short time period. This agent was able to document 3,576 hours from late December 2021 to mid March 2022 that he was directly involved with. Based on data from independentsector.org as of April 2021 the national value of each volunteer hour was $28.54 . Although the dollar value totaled $102,059.04 for those hours, there were many more thousands of volunteer hours that were not documented. After this agent and two volunteers finished rebuilding a fence for a hair sheep producer, he commented " I cannot thank you all enough." Volunteerism really does make a difference. Volunteers Mark Dressman and retired Campbell County ANR Agent Don Sorrell rebuilding a fence after the December 10,2021 tornado.
