Partnership with Dare to Care food bank
Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak of a global pandemic caused a potential loss of income. Many families in Spencer County have faced unemployment and the demand for food boxes has increased.
The Spencer County's University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Agent addressed the situation by delivering educational articles & publications to Spencer County's Dare to Care food bank located at Spencer County First Baptist Church. As reported by a food distribution worker, "the food lines at the food distribution has increased and currently two hundred families receive a box each month."
The Family Consumer Science agent delivered two hundred publications each month to the Spencer County Dare to Care Center. The packets focused on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on proper handwashing, the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture and Food and Environment's Nutrition Education Program recipes for budget-friendly & healthy food, budget friendly Plate it Up! recipes, Cook Wild Kentucky recipes, Money wise Monthly Newsletters and the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture and Food and Environment's Cooperative Extension Healthy Choices newsletters. The articles helped promote potential behavior changes to benefit and make a lasting impact for the community. This partnership will continue as it helps provide support to the Taylorsville community.
