Plan of Work: Leadership and Community Development
Outcome: Initial Outcome
In 2019, the Adair County Community Assessment facilitated by the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service revealed one of the top priority issue to citizens was the need for more local citizens solving local issues. In 2018, Extension Master Gardeners provided over $140 million dollars of volunteer work nationally. Recognizing the need for more local volunteers and the impact the Extension Master Gardener program has on communities, the Adair County Extension Master Gardener Program was offered by the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service in 2022.
Eight local citizens have enrolled in the program and are currently completing the training requirements for Extension Master Gardener certification. Through the certification process, individuals will begin conducting volunteer’s hours and conducting education efforts. Early priority areas of education include educating youth on food production, disseminating horticulture education via media outlets, and developing a social network of gardeners to hold monthly educational gardening programs.
