Agriculture, like any industry needs leaders to promote it so that it continues to grow. In 2012,Muhlenberg County corn, soybean, and wheat farmer Brent Gatton, approached this agent about participating in the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture Food and Environment program known as (KALP) Kentucky Ag Leadership Program. His nomination to participate in the two year leadership program was successful. Upon his completion of the program, he became active in local agriculture oriented organizations. He served on the Muhlenberg County Extension Council, Chair of the Muhlenberg County Phase I Agricultural Development Council and Chair of the Muhlenberg County Farm Bureau Federation. While serving as the chair of the local Farm Bureau Federation, he became a member of the Kentucky Soybean Association Board and a Kentucky representative to the United Soybean Board. He is now serving as president of the Kentucky Soybean Association while still serving as one of three Kentucky representatives to the United Soybean Board. Developing ones leadership skills can take them places.
