Sophomore, Kristin Whitehead, joined Harrison County 4-H Teen Council in September 2021 and hasn’t looked back. Running for Public Relations officer of the group, she was elected and fulfilled (and continues to fulfill) her roles and responsibilities with enthusiasm and professionalism. Her role has her help market 4-H to other youth and teens, as well as promote and report to adult audiences when requested. Kristin joined her 4-H Agent to the local Lions Club meeting in December where together they shared about 4-H experiences, current offerings, and future ambitions to over 30 local members and community partners. She (also joined by the Teen Council Social Ambassador) did the local radio “Coffee Break Extra” with their agent and host, the Mayor of Cynthiana in January to promote and discuss 4-H. Leadership shines through Kristin. Her verbal communication is polished and thorough. She has aspirations of becoming a 4-H State Officer. Kristin was the only delegate from Harrison County who attended 4-H Issues Conference back in September. The experience changed her 4-H involvement. She has spoken of her experiences to both the Lions Club and WCYN’s listening audience. “I never thought that you could make your best friends in just 3 days, but I did at 4-H Issues Conference. It was eye opening to me how different each community is, but I had to explain to my group that we don’t have both city and county high schools – we just have one. So we had to work together to figure out solutions to our group’s mock agriculture issue taking into account the differences across communities.” As a result of Kristin’s enthusiasm for 4-H Issues, Harrison County is taking 2 additional delegates to 4-H SRTLC in February.
