A home owner in Anderson County, Kentucky, requested assistance in getting home repair. The home owner attended a county extension program at the Anderson County Extension office on September 15, 2016. The county extension program was entitled Kentucky State University and University of Kentucky Annual Extension Meeting. The home owner listens to a presentation on USDA Rural Housing. After the meeting the home owner requested an appointment with the Kentucky State University Area Agent for Small Farm Program. The Kentucky State University Area Agent for Small Farm Program filled out an USDA rural housing application with the home owner on April 13, 2016.  The home owner had a difficult time getting a correct home repair estimate for home repairs for USDA Rural Housing, so she called the KSU Area Agent for Small Farm Program and he assisted the home owner in getting a correct home repair estimate on October 5, 2017. The home repair estimate completed the application process with USDA Rural Housing resulting in the home owner being approved on March 8, 2018 for the requested funds of 27, 500 dollars. The 20,000 was a 1% loan and the $7500 dollars was a grant.

The Kentucky State University Small Farm Program is an extension program designed to help farm families with decision-making skills to solve farm and home problems. It includes educational programs that emphasize the use and understanding of USDA agencies and their programs, while providing technical assistance in completing applications and helping farmers and families through the entire application process. With these improvements, the home owner home hazards are removed from the home and provides a reasonable standard of living for the family.
