Strengthening Communication with Extension Clientele
Author: Vicki Wynn
Planning Unit: Marshall County CES
Major Program: Community Engagement
Plan of Work: Healthy Living Lifestyles for Youth, Families & Community
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
As Family & Consumer Sciences 'first responders', it became apparent that a variety of program delivery methods would be required in order to reach traditional participants and new Extension users during the Pandemic of 2020-21. The '2021 Lifelong Learning Series' materials were distributed by mail, email and video segments with lessons about Hunger in Kentucky, House Plants, and Coffee Time: Exploring a Favorite Beverage. Audience reach included 23,800+ through social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook, as well as 700 email listserv subscribers and 18,000 viewers through local cable access.
Participants responded to surveys via mail and online evaluations with valuable feedback. They report taking action on the topic of community hunger by locating and filling mini food pantries across the county. It has also raised awareness about the need for food and essential supplies throughout our community.
It has been determined that these methods of reaching Extension clientele will continue in the future as they have proven to assist in connecting valuable research-based information to those who enjoy life-long learning topics.
