Plan of Work: Enhance the Strong Agicultural and Natural Resource Base
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
The Lawrence County Agriculture and Natural Resource (ANR) Extension Agent and the Lawrence County Master Gardeners have been offering a hands on workshop for the community during the holidays. Individuals come in and make wreaths using live greenery harvested from a local KY Proud tree farm. Individuals learn to construct wreaths for the personal enjoyment and also as a way to use live greenery they have at home and possibly a way to make some extra money through the holidays. The program takes place for 2 days in December. Orignally the program was just 2, 1 hour classes but the demand for more opportunities to make wreaths has grown significantly. The ANR Extension Agent and Master Gardeners spend weeks preparing for this class making bows, purchasing greenery, and setting up. In 2021, Individuals and groups come from 2 different states, 4 KY counties, totally over 120 participants. 140+ wreaths were hand crafted. This is a 40% increase from 2020. This is also a great marketing tool for the ANR program in Lawrence County. Over half of the participants during the 2021 program stated that they were unaware that the Extension Office offered these kinds of programs and looked forward to future events. Several individuals signed up for our monthly newsletter and even more said they would be coming back and would also tell their family and friends about what Extension offers.
