Major Program: Community Vitality and Leadership – 4-H Youth Development

Plan of Work: Empowering Youth

Outcome: Initial Outcome

During 2021 the Owen County 4-H program saw a lot of growth and potential for the coming years. In August the Owen County 4-H Agent sent out a Qualtrics Survey seeking club interest for the 2022 program year, with much surprise the involvement in the survey was much more than expected. This year there have been many clubs re-start with a couple of years of being inactive due to COVID or just not having Volunteers. Thus far there are 7 clubs and some school programs that are either brand new or have be “re-energized” they are as follows:

Livestock Club- 10 Members

Horse Club- 7 Members (6 first time 4-H members)

Country Hams- 10 Members, 4 Cloverbuds (2 first time 4-H members, 4 new cloverbuds)

Nature and Environment- 14 signed up via survey- first meeting is the end of January

Shooting Sports- 15 members starting safety meetings in March

Craft Club- 19 members

Sewing- Beginner and Advanced will meet in February

School Program- Communications— the Owen Co.4-H agent is working with ELA, Agriculture (HS and MS), STEM teachers, and social studies on teaching students how to write, and give a speech correctly. The students will then have the opportunity to compete at the county level, last year there were 18 youth, the goal for this year is 30 youth.

These clubs wouldn’t be possible without AMAZING volunteers, 10 of which from Owen County will be learning new skills and “re-energizing” at the 2022 KVF in February. Over the past 18 months the Owen County 4-H Agent is pleased with the growth of the program.
