Major Program: Health

Plan of Work: Improving Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyles

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Providing opportunities for youth to develop healthy lifestyle habits is a major focus of both Kentucky 4-H and Woodford County Schools. Finding a way to reach students across the county in an engaging and interactive manner can be a challenge. One 4-H Curriculum available to help achieve this goal is the 4-H Yoga for Kids curriculum, which provides kids-oriented yoga lessons and poses in a fun and engaging manner. To address this issue, Woodford County 4-H has partnered with the Woodford County High School, specifically with a group of students who are co-oping with Homegrown Yoga, a local yoga business studio. As part of the program, five high school juniors who are participating in the co-op and getting certified to be yoga instructors are also learning how to teach 4-H Yoga for Kids, learning about youth development and effective strategies for teaching yoga to youth audiences. In the fall, these students as seniors will then go into the elementary schools in Woodford County to teach yoga, utilizing the 4-H Yoga for Kids curriculum as they engage with audiences all across the county.
