The Whitley County Farm Day was held on Friday, October 1st, 2021 at the new county fairgrounds. The ANR agent facilitated the event. The overall goal of this event was to improve vitality of the local agriculture community and to increase awareness of agricultural opportunities in Whitley County. Educational demonstrations included the following: potato planter/harvester, hay baler safety, chainsaw safety, equine program, and stock dogs. Cooperators included Whitley County Farm Bureau, Whitley County Cattlemen's Association, Whitley County FFA, Whitley County Small Farms Group, Whitley County Beekeepers, Whitley County Fiscal Court, Farm Credit Mid America, Southeast Kentucky Sheep Producers Association, Prewitt's Farm Supply, Tennessee Farmers Co-Op, Kentucky Division of Forestry, United Trappers of Kentucky, and several local businesses. Whitley County Extension program areas represented were agriculture and natural resources, family consumer sciences, 4H, fine arts, horticulture, and SNAP Ed. Other county extension agents participating were Laurel ANR, Knox ANR, Clay ANR, Harlan 4H, and Kentucky State University SNAP Ed.. A total of 277 people participated in the Farm Day. A written evaluation was used to gauge the participants learning experience.
