Planning Unit: 4-H Central Operations

Major Program: Natural Resources

Plan of Work: Environmental Education

Outcome: Initial Outcome

We have started the program year with one indoor meeting at the extension office and have had one field trip. Both meeting and trip were well attended with returning members. During the meeting at the extension office we went though basic skills for outdoor survival and gear. We took a trip to a wooded property to practice fire building, facilitated three activities that relate to tracking and sound mapping. All youth and parents that attended the trip enjoyed the content and were looking forward for future trips. we plan to have more outings that test the skills learned in the monthly meetings. I was happily surprised by how well the youth performed during the first outing. I prepared myself for some level of resistance when it came to participation, meaning I figured some might not choose to participate in all activities. However, all youth with enthusiasm participated in all activities planned and we ran though them multiple times because the were having so much fun. I am excited that the youth members are responding well to the program content and look forward to see them work thought the other skills I have planned for future meetings.
