Planning Unit: Lincoln County CES

Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Leadership Development & Volunteerism 2020-24

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Members of the Lincoln County Extension Homemakers Association are conquering challenges head-on during the pandemic.  With advice from this County Extension Agent, members recently conducted some traditional programs in very unique ways.  One such program was the membership event.  Due to COVID restrictions, members were not able to meet together in large groups.  Members planned, organized, and conducted a drive through membership recruitment event during Extension Homemakers Week.  The event occurred outside in the Extension Office parking lot over a two hour period one afternoon.  Members set up a canopy, decorated, and welcomed the general public to drive through and pay their membership dues.  In exchange, those paying dues received a cloth tote bag filled with items including their program of work calendar book.  More than 35 people drove through paying their dues as well as dropping off dues for other club members.  A total of 75 people paid dues during this event.  While this event was very different from the traditional way members usually conduct this event, the outcome was more successful than in years past. Total membership in increasing and is expected to surpass last year’s number.  Members also worked very hard to create and conduct a non-traditional officer and chairperson training.  They organized a “game” format using teams and friendly competition to increase knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of officers and chairpersons.   Participants loved the new format and reported really enjoying the event, learning much about these roles and responsibilities, and thinking about ways they can utilize this knowledge to improve their clubs and county association.  Some members are also serving at the area and state levels.   They shared leadership information from their experiences in those leadership roles and inspired others to consider taking their leadership abilities to those levels.  Participating in this event were members from our county as well as other counties in our area.  While times have been especially challenging and uncertain, the Lincoln County Extension Homemaker members have taken on these challenges and met them in very positive, unique, and successful ways.
