Author: Jeremy Williams

Planning Unit: Harlan County CES

Major Program: Small Farm Diversification

Plan of Work: Improve and sustain agriculture production

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

With additional funding from the Kentucky Office of Agriculture Policy, the Harlan County Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent worked with the Harlan County Agriculture Development Council and Harlan County Conservation District, as they were able to distribute $10,000 for farmers in Harlan County.  The ANR agent advertised the funding, provided education information to farmers and support to the Agriculture Development Council and Conservation District during their process.  Farmers that chose to participate in the cost share program were able to improve their farming businesses thru agriculture diversification, value added, marketing and beef cattle herd improvement.  The funds, will allow these farmers to improve their production and offset some of their costs, as well.  One farmer stated that their energy consumption costs were cut at least by 50 percent from the equipment they were able to purchase with the funding.
