Virtual Pumpkin Week

Planning Unit: Estill County CES

Major Program: Health

Plan of Work: Health and Wellness

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Estill County 4-H Program started their Virtual Pumpkin week in the midst of 2020 when programming was limited.  Due to the success from last year, we expanded the program and opened it to more youth and created more kits that filled up very quickly.  This program allowed youth to stay engaged in our programming and was an opportunity to get the whole family involved in the various lessons provided.   We had approximately thirty families sign up for a kit where they received a large amount of crafts, recipes, and fun learning opportunities for the whole week.  This Pumpkin Week Grab N Go kit contained activities for SNAP-Education, healthy living, family and consumer sciences, Agriculture, STEM, communications, and expressive arts.   All of these had something to do with Pumpkins and Kentucky Agriculture.  In conjunction with the kits, we also held a virtual pumpkin carving contest, where we had over twenty different youth participate in.  One family stated "We loved working on the STEM lesson in dissolving candy pumpkins!"
