For many years now, Pulaski County Extension has help prepare and plan the County Fair Beef Show. Over the last two years, many parents and 4-Hers who show livestock in Pulaski have been asking to add small animal (hog, goat & sheep) shows to our county fair. We have several youth in our county that show sheep, hogs & goats. After collaborating with the Pulaski County Fair Board, Extension was able to get small animal shows added to the 2021 Pulaski County Fair.
The first show of the day was the hog show. There were five exhibitors with a total of 10 hog entries. Two of these exhibitors were Pulaski County 4-H/FFA members. Our second show was our goat show with two exhibitors and two total goat entries. One goat exhibitor was a Pulaski County 4-H member. The last of our small animal shows was our sheep show. We had eight exhibitors with a total of 11 sheep entries. All eight exhibitors were Pulaski County 4-H members. This brought a total of 15 small animal exhibitors, (11 Pulaski County 4-H members) and 23 small animals into our county fair this year. We had many compliments and thank yous from the parents of 4-H and FFA members who showed.
To follow the small animal shows was the beef cattle show. There were 16 exhibitors (three Pulaski County 4-H/FFA members) with a total of 43 cattle entries. Overall, Pulaski County 4-H/FFA had 12 members able to participate in our County Fair Livestock shows thanks to adding our small animal shows. This event was made possible by Pulaski County 4-H Agent, Jennifer Cole, Ag & Natural Resources Agent, TJ Adkins and 4-H livestock volunteers.
