Practicing safety is important because it helps keep people out of harm’s way. Over the course of a lifetime, people learn and practice safety, such as looking both ways before crossing the street, wearing a seat belt or locking doors when away or at night. Simple lifestyle changes and recognizing hazards and how danger or injuries can occur when participating in different activities are keys to safe living.

Leslie County presented Keys to Embracing Aging: Safety. 100% of participants completed post lesson evaluations.  As a result of the program, 100% of  participants reported improved understanding regarding the impact that safety has on overall health and well-being. 100% reported intentions to implement at least one strategy to improve their overall safety.

While, all participants reported practicing safe lifestyles, 100% participants reported that they could improve their safety practices. As a result, All participants plan to practice better daily safety practices.

A valuable program, participants learned to create a safe plan and to make sure house number is visible. All participants will be sent a 30-day follow-up evaluation.

30 Day Follow Up: Safety  is a Cooperative Extension educational health intervention aimed at improving overall health by focusing on ways in which individuals and families can be empowered to take control of their own lifestyle decisions and behaviors in terms of health and well-being.  To demonstrate behavior change regarding safety, the program included a 30-day follow-up evaluation.  Of the participants  who were sent follow-up evaluations, 75% were returned. All reported that they implemented at least one strategy to increase their effort to be safer on a daily basis.  Specifically, participants reported that they: made their house number visible and kept a fire extinguisher handy.
