Plan of Work: ANR Local Food Systems

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Promoting local farmers has many benefits.  The money that is spent with local farmers and growers stays close to home and is reinvested with businesses and services in our community.  Promoting Local food also benefits the environment. By purchasing locally grown foods we help maintain farmland and green and/or open space in your community. (MSU Extension) In Kenton County we believe that 4-H can have a part in helping our local farmers as well as raising money for our 4-H Programs.  With this goal in mind Kenton County 4-H Council started our Farm to Dinner in 2019.   This year was our 2nd annual dinner.  The 2021 Farm to Table Dinner increased awareness of the local food movement by teaming up with the department of Kentucky Agriculture. This dinner highlighted local farms, farmers, producers, and Kentucky Proud farm products through a dinner prepared by a Kentucky Chef. The Kenton County 4-H Council purchased over $1500.00 worth of local food to be served at our dinner.  Not only did we put money in our Farmers pockets we were able to raise 4000.00 for our 4-H Council to support local 4-H programs.  The 150 guest & volunteers that attended the dinner were impressed with the dinner and 60% wanted more information about how to buy locally grown products.75% of the guest that were not involved in 4-H and were very impressed with our youth that served at the event and want to return next year.
