As the Covid-19 pandemic continued to prove difficult to reach clients in person, the Harrison County Nutrition Education Program Assistant collaborated with the local Save-A-Lot grocery store.
Each week the Nutrition Education Program Assistant would review the items on sale for the week and provide a recipe that went with items on sale. Handouts were placed in the 3-slot tray for customers to pick up and the display board was updated with different nutrition information and recipe each week.
Over 5,000 helpful handouts which included topics of fruits, vegetable, handwashing, food safety, and recipes where picked up by customers over a six month period. The partnership with Save-A-Lot grocery has put nutritional information in the hand of Harrison County residents at a time when social distancing was still needed.
