Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

One of the goals of the Nutrition Education Program (NEP) is to provide nutrition information to the residents of Kentucky. As a result of COVID-19, delivery methods for NEP were altered drastically.   In-person classes were canceled because of COVID restrictions.   On-Line and Facebook LIVE classes were the best way for the Washington County SNAP-Ed Program Assistant to reach participants.

The Kentucky NEP develops an annual recipe calendar full of healthy, easy to prepare recipes using available ingredients for our low-income participants. Utilizing the NEP Calendar, starting in January 2021 cooking demonstration were recorded LIVE on Facebook with 500 NEP calendars distributed in our community.  During the first three months of 2021, 758 people have engaged with these videos.  These numbers are expected to rise as this series progresses.

One participant commented “Love these wonderful cooking demonstrations so much. I have learned so much from these. I have also enjoyed the tasty recipes too. Thank you so much for your creative uplifting services for our community. Your truly appreciated. Sign me up for the classes you were speaking of on this video. Everyone these are excellent & fun classes to learn so much from. And they are free to attend virtually. Can even get all the free information in printouts mailed to you or pick up from County Extension Office.”
