Positive Changes with Health Choices for Every Body

Author: Connie Downey

Planning Unit: Clay County CES

Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

According to 2016 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 46.2 percent of adults in Kentucky reported consuming fruit less than one time daily. The Clay County Cooperative Extension Service SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education) assistant for SNAP eligible individuals using the Healthy Choices for Every Body curriculum partnered with the Big Creek Parent Group to address this issue. Due to COVID restrictions the program was conducted virtually via ZOOM live streamed to a closed Facebook group.

There were four participants, age ranging from young adult to older adult. The group showed a 75 percent increase in consuming fruit more often each day. One participant shared, “that fruit is now their go to snack.”
