Outcome: Initial Outcome

AgVocating is extremely important to the community of Scott County that is increasingly becoming urban. Youth were able to AgVocate to community members; by explaining the breed and pedigree of their animal or discussing the importance of the health and nutrition, that one must think about on a daily basis for its livestock project. By presenting this information, it can open the eyes of those that do not have an agriculture background and allow them to see the hard work and the importance of keeping agriculture traditions alive. The Scott County Investment in Youth Livestock Showcase had twenty-four 4-H and FFA youth that display their livestock animals, which included beef cattle, dairy cattle, goats, hogs, rabbits, and country ham projects. Youth were required to give a presentation on a specific topics related to their livestock project while government officials, school personnel, and other community members listened and scored them based on a rubric provide from the showcase committee. 4-H and FFA participants and the Scott County Investment in Youth Livestock Showcase committee collected monetary donations, which was distribute based on rubric scores. A banquet ceremony was at the end of the showcase to congratulate and distribute awards to the top individuals of each age category. Youth that participated in the livestock showcase learned public speaking skill, how to educate others about the agriculture industry, time management, and the responsibility of owning livestock animals.
