Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic; public events, lessons, and demonstrations were the desired method of reaching clients in the Nutrition Education Program (NEP) but then the world shut down. The Wolfe County Nutrition Education Program’s Facebook page was updated to add additional ways of reaching clientele who were staying healthy at home.
Appropriate content was added daily and the number of individuals visiting the Facebook page has increased by 61% since March of 2020. Individuals are given the chance to view, live and recorded food demonstration videos, Healthy Choices for Healthy Families newsletters, and important information about nutrition topics. The Wolfe County NEP Facebook page has also provided tips on increasing physical activity, Plan Eat Move blogs, Food and Nutrition Calendar recipes, Choose My Plate tips, Plate It Up recipes, and gardening tips.
The Wolfe County Facebook NEP page has had a reach of approximately 18,747 people, an increase of 495% from March of 2020 through August 2021. One viewer left a comment, stating “I love being able to be safe at home and still have access to this wonderful program and useful information. I love watching the Facebook Lives of you and your daughters, it has encouraged me to cook more with my son.”
