With COVID-19 pandemic shutting down in person classes in March of 2020, face to face meeting would no longer be safe. The Shelby County Cooperative Extension Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program-Education Assistant decided to continue her partnership with Whitney Moore Young Jr. Job Corps Center to a virtual Google Meets platform.
A private Google Meets group proved to be the easiest way to provide educational content to participants.
Researched-based information from the “Healthy Choices for Every Body” curriculum taught participants how to access food and ways to stretch food dollars during a pandemic.
An entry and exit survey were conducted on Google Meets and participant’s completed survey data was collected in a safe manner. The results revealed 100% eat fruit more often each day; 100% eat vegetables more often each day; 33% drank fewer regular sodas; and 70 % improved their food resource management.
