The Warren County Extension Office SNAP Education Assistant and Agents created a fun, mobile educational program to highlight all program areas offered by the Cooperative Extension Service entitled “Extension on the Go”. This collaborative effort focused on compiling themed bags full of educational materials, family activities, recipes, and more for Warren County residents to enjoy. These bags were created to uplift the spirits of people in Warren County during the COVID 19 Pandemic for the months of October, November, and December. Extension on the Go bag featured many items. The bag included local popcorn, popcorn seasoning, safely preparing turkey sheet, diabetes information, healthy holiday eating, lean protein recipes, local indoor walking track information, and Winter Farmer’s market guide.
One hundred and fifty bags were distributed to Warren County residents. From the follow-up surveys, 100% enjoyed their local popcorn and are considering purchasing popcorn locally. Eighty-nine percent of people would like more information on healthy eating. One hundred percent of participants plan to buy lean protein at the grocery store.
Ninety-four percent of people now feel confident in safely preparing their turkey due to Nutrition Education Program resources. Ninety-four percent learned about winter farmer's markets in the area and feel confident in selecting and storing winter produce. Another 94% learned how to create a winter container garden. Seventy-two percent of individuals hope to utilize one of the indoor walking tracks in Warren County to increase physical activity.
