When an agency is in the people business, and things shut down, reaching your audience becomes a challenge. For the Daviess County Nutrition Education Program, this was the case. In order to reach the community, the Daviess County Nutrition Education Program formed a new partnership with the Daviess County Public Library to offer community education programs online.
The Daviess County Public Library provides a platform that reaches out to over 15,000 Facebook subscribers. Monthly outreach classes were provided via the Daviess County Public Library Facebook Page from the SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education Program Assistant. Topics covered have been Meet Your Nutrition with MyPlate, with 449 views, Talking Turkey Food Safety, with 356 views Breakfast Made Easy, with 449 views, and Healthy Eating for Every Little Body, with 257 views. The SNAP-Ed NEP Assistant made handouts with each lesson available at the Library for patrons to come and pick up. Because of this partnership, future Healthy Choices for Every Body will be offered at the Library, once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
The Daviess Count Public Library’s Adult Program Coordinator stated, “Our patrons have really enjoyed the NEP Assistant’s lessons and live cooking demonstrations. We look forward to the future lessons, and to our continued partnership.”
