Planning Unit: Bullitt County CES

Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Nutrition Education Program (NEP) Senior Assistant of the Bullitt County Cooperative Extension Service had to get creative to offer programming with community partners. Working with the Mount Washington Public Library, the NEP Assistant collaborated to offer the Healthy Choices for Everybody series over Zoom.

Six participants attended the classes that included tips for physical activity, My Plate, Food Safety, Breakfast, Budgeting, Meal Planning, How to Read Nutrition Labels, Know the Limits on Fats, Sugars and Salt. After the lesson "Breakfast made Easy for Everybody" a participant shared that she was inspired to rethink her breakfast foods and was making a plan to eat a healthier breakfast.

According to beginning and ending comparison data from a national reporting system, as a result 75% of participants showed improvement in one or more diet quality indicators such as eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking less regular soda.

Also 100% of the participants showed improvement in one or more food resource management practices such as cooking more dinners at home, planning meals before shopping and making a grocery list.
