Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Due to the coronavirus continuing into 2021, all in-person nutrition education classes continue to be on hold for the Bullitt County Nutrition Education Program. In order to reach out to the community a Facebook page was utilized even more by posting nutrition related resources several times a day.

The goal was to post recipes and helpful tips that could be taken and used in everyday life, just as if regular in-person classes were being taught. This effort to keep in touch with current clients and to reach out to the community with much needed nutrition education resources paid off. The number of individuals who have used the FB page has increased by 40% since March 2020

In February of 2021 the NEP Facebook page had 3,404 indirect contacts with 646 of those estimated to be SNAP-ED eligible using the state poverty rate. One viewer left a comment stating "I never realized how much sodium was in processed food till I read one of your posts." The Facebook page will continue even after classes can be held in-person again and will continue to  serve as a resource to the Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program audience in Bullitt County.
