Ballard County CAIP Program

Author: Thomas Miller

Planning Unit: Ballard County CES

Major Program: Farm Management, Economics and Policy

Plan of Work: Efficient and Profitable Corn, Wheat and Soybeans Production for Ballard County Producers

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Ballard Counties’ Ag Development Council has put their Master Settlement Agreement to good use over the life of the program.  This past year saw the Ballard County Extension office and ANR Agent Tom Miller along with Bob Johnson from Non Profit Dynamic as administrator conducted a County Agricultural Investment Program where 68 producers participated.  Grain Storage and Handling was the biggest area of investment, with Precision Agriculture followed closely.  Hay storage and Land Drainage were also major investment areas.  The program is a 50% cost share of up to $5000.  That means a producer would have to spend at least $10,000 to get $ 5000 back.  The 68 producers were reimbursed $295,306.10 and spent $1,053,946.90 on projects in Ballard County.  The majority of these project for improvements in Farm Infrastructure will have a long lasting economic effect for the future of Ballard
