The holiday season is a time for celebrating, relaxing, and enjoying time with family and friends. The excess foods that the holiday season brings can take a toll on your health. According to HealthLine Health News, “The average American gains between 1 and 10 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas”. Considering that 42% of people in the United States are obese and 32% are overweight this is a serious health issue. We gain and keep an average of one to two pounds every year, even one additional pound spells trouble in the long run.
To help combat that problem, the Mason County Nutrition Education Assistant along with all NEP Assistants from District One decided to make food demonstration videos of healthier options of the “traditional” foods often consumed during the holidays. Videos were released each week from October 26th to December 7th on Facebook pages and included the recipe for the healthier option. The response was awesome!
Mason County’s Facebook page had a total of 9,897 views over the seven week period. We received comments like: “Like how simple it is to make.” “Looks delicious.” “Thank you for the video.” “Thanks for sharing!” “Always excited to see new recipes to try!!”
