Madison County 4-H Agent offered a four-day 4-H quilting day camp series to eight youth.  The development of life skills such as sewing has been shown to increase hand/eye coordination, improve critical thinking skills, develop creative thinkers and serve as an expressive art form. By learning to complete sewing projects youth develop confidence and a sense of accomplishment by completing new projects. The participating youth received 18 hours of instruction on sewing techniques, machine use and basic quilting background.  At the conclusion of the program all youth indicated that they could:

-Identify parts of the sewing machine

-safely use the machine

-control the speed of the sewing machine

-thread the machine

-create quilting patterns

-properly baste a quilt

All of the youth indicated that they were interested in continuing to learn new sewing techniques.
