With the increase awareness of gun control and safety in our communities, our shooting sports club has grown and our members have accepted more responsibility and grew as a club. Youth in this club have been involved in 4-H for several years and have learned more public speaking skills and to be outgoing within this club. This September we had 5 youth sign up for the state shooting sports contest where as in the past two years we have only one compete. The club has grown into a "family" and the youth are growing up together. Two of the older members helped plan the county 4-H Banquet and had speaking roles. The club budget has grown from $500 to just shy of $3000 thanks to the growth and leadership of youth in the club working hard to fundraise. Our youth have also took pride in learning about safety and required everyone in their club to obtain their orange card before practice starts. This spring we have a new adult volunteer attending certification along with our first teen coach. Along with becoming a teen coach, he is was selected to serve as a teen volunteer at 4-H Shooting Sports Camp in the spring. The club has been working hard to plan a kick off event to spread the word about 4-H Shooting Sports and trying to get more youth educated. The club also sent 3 youth and 4 adult coaches/volunteers to the Kentucky Volunteer Forum to learn more to bring back from the club. The youth and adult volunteers over this past year have learned how to better conduct meetings, fundraise, budget, and give back to their community.
