The Fayette County Champion Food Volunteers started in 2017 with a class of six. After training this year we now have 18. The program has grown and the leadership of the first group has become more evident with each day. New roles have been take on by the first class and they are leading the next group to be more involved and teaching what they have learned. Building the capacity of volunteer leaders within counties is critical for the sustainability of a community infrastructure that supports long-term commitment to strengthen families. Through the guidance of Cooperative Extension, volunteers practice personal leadership skills in clubs, schools and their communities as well as develop programs to fit the needs of the communities that they volunteer.
