According to the American Cancer Society, by the end of 2019, there will have been an estimated 1,762,450 new cancer cases and 606,880 cancer deaths in the United States, which is about three new cases and one death every minute (2019). The 2022 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps for Kentucky had Owsley County ranked the least healthy for health outcomes and health behaviors. With these statistics in mind, the Owsley County Family & Consumer Sciences Advisory Council continues to see the need for health & nutrition education as a high priority for our community members.
