According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 63 million U. S. citizens volunteer at least once for an organization a year. Scott County Extension Master Gardeners make up a part of that statistic and take their commitment to volunteer for the county Cooperative Extension Horticulture Program seriously. Planning for the 2017 Scott Co. Extension Master Gardener Lawn and Garden Expo begin in October, of 2016. At that time committees were formed and chairs appointed to those committees. The event took place in March, 2017. Sourcing local foods and/or growing your own continues to gain popularity in Scott County. State Master Gardener Conference 2017 – East Meets West - was held at Scott Co. Cooperative Extension Building, Georgetown, KY, in September 2017. The culmination of a year’s planning that involved all District 4 Horticulture agents and their extension master gardeners volunteers; the annual conference was filled with multiple opportunities to learn everything horticultural, from soil health to designing with natives. The annual conference brought 177
