The amount of farmland in Campbell County continues to decline each year. 87% of the citizens of Campbell County live in urban communities. This increasing population has limited understanding or appreciation for the importance of agriculture in our daily lives. Horses are an important industry and pastime in Campbell County. According to the 2022 Kentucky Equine Survey, there are about 1,600 horses in Campbell County with a yearly income of services of $2,050,000. The 4-H Horse Program has a strong tradition in Campbell County. Members and leaders are active on the county, area and state levels. With the number of farms and acres of farmland in Campbell County decreasing each year, the general public’s appreciation for and understanding of animal agriculture is decreasing also. This makes the task of educating our youth about animal agriculture and the benefits and life skills that can be gained from 4-H Animal Projects even more important.
