Logan County is one of six counties in Kentucky with an obesity rate which exceeds 40%. The percentage of adolescents considered overweight is 15.4 % and 18 % of adolescents are considered obese. Logan County is one of six counties in Kentucky with obesity rates over 40 % .The percentage of children being overweight is 16.3% and 15.6% obese. The poverty level for Logan County is 19.7% with a food insecurity rate at 15.2%. According to data from the Barren River District Health Department, Logan County ranks 39th out of 120 counties in terms of health and has an obesity rate of 36%. Studies have shown that healthy eating habits contributes to better overall health and less risk of chronic diseases. The Logan County Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent taught “What’s New in Healthy Snacks” to homemakers in the Mammoth Cave Area to address one area of healthy eating. Goals
