Situation:
Agriculture leadership groups such as CEC, Campbell County Agriculture Council, Campbell County Farmland Workgroup, Campbell County Cattle Association and Jolly Community Development Council have identified the need to raise the awareness of the general public about the importance of agriculture and our natural resources as well as provide assistance to potential new farmers.
Long-Term Outcomes:
The general public will support local farmers especially in the area of locally grown food markets. The general public will make good decisions that will lead to improved use and preservation of our natural resources. New, young and existing farmers will establish new farming enterprises.
Intermediate Outcomes:
The general public will begin to utilize local grown food products resulting in improved markets for farmers. The general public will volunteer/support natural resources and recreational improvement projects in the county. New, young and existing farmers will develop a farm plan that will include the development and management of new farming enterprises.
Initial Outcomes:
The general public (adults and youth) will learn about the importance of agriculture and our natural resources. The general public will learn about locally grown food markets and improving and utilizing our natural resources such as land and water. New and young farmers will learn about the opportunities and challenges of establishing a new farming enterprise.
Evaluation:

Initial Outcome: Adults and youth will learn about the importance of agriculture and our natural resources. 

Indicator: Number of adults and youth participating in educational programs and activities focusing on agriculture and natural resources. 

Method: surveys, participant feedback  

Timeline:  After educational programs and activities, July 2017 – December 2018 


Intermediate Outcome: Increase participation by the general public at agriculture and natural resource awareness activities, at farmers markets and alternative markets. Youth (especially FFA students) will become involved in agriculture education programs beyond the school.  Producers will indicate increased revenue.  New or existing farmers will implement plans to develop new farming enterprises. 

Indicator: Number of youth and adults participating in agriculture and natural resources programs.  

Method:  Surveys, public and producer feedback, observations  

Timeline: Summer 2017-2018 


Long-term Outcome: Continued increase in participation in agriculture and natural resources awareness programs and activities.  This will lead to more productive and profitable Campbell farming operations both existing and new. Youth and new farmers will gain “on farm” experiences with production agriculture. 

Indicator: Number of adults/youth participating in extension sponsored programs. Producers will indicate increased revenue from sales.

Learning Opportunities:

Audience: Beginning farmers, farmers

Activity: Beginning Farmer Grant Program 

Content or Curriculum:  Grants program for beginning farmers with less than 5 years of experience

Activity: Campbell County Farm Videos  

Content or Curriculum: Develop three videos showcasing local farms and highlight agriculture best management practices. Make videos available on websites and local media outlets.
