Situation:
As communities grow and prosper, change always becomes an issue. some change is welcomed, while others lead to challenges within the community. As local communities face a critical need for self-reliance and sustainability there is a critical need for personal and organizational leadership development. The ability to visualize change as it occurs or before it becomes a reality, and develop proper responses is one of the attributes of leadership. Allen County is representative of communities across the state in its need for qualified leaders and individuals with a desire to help their community by volunteering. Individuals that acquire leadership and volunteering skills can assume more leadership roles with Extension, the local school system, government and civic organizations. Success Stories

Kentucky Volunteer Forum 2018

Author: Anna Meador

Major Program: Leadership 4-H Core Curriculum

Volunteers play integral roles in 4-H programs, performing a variety of duties, functions, and tasks and possessing varied and rich knowledge, skills, and backgrounds (Radhakrishna & Ewing, 2011). The success of Extension programming is due, in part, to the dedication of a large cadre of volunteers (Smith, Dasher, & Klingborg, 2005). Although highly valued, volunteer involvement does not guarantee achievement of Extension's goals and fulfillment of learners' needs (Bolton, 1992).
