Situation:

Programs at the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service are leader driven. Building the capacity of volunteer leaders within counties is critical for the sustainability of a community infrastructure that supports long-term commitment to strengthen families. Volunteers share their expertise and time with youth and families in the community. According to national statistics, 44% of all American adults volunteer in some capacity. Extension programs provide individuals the opportunity to cultivate talents, leadership skills and the opportunity to utilize those talents and skills with others.

Long-Term Outcomes:

Community problems can be solved through active engaged local leaders. Extension leaders gain knowledge and leadership skills that will be utilized throughout the community to improve health and economy.

Intermediate Outcomes:

Individuals will practice leadership skills in clubs, schools and community. They will improve skills in communication, problem solving or group process in addressing organizational issues and needs.

Initial Outcomes:

Leaders will increase knowledge and skills in personal, organizational and community leadership.

Evaluation:

Initial Outcome: Leaders will increase knowledge and skills in personal, organizational and community leadership.

Indicator: Increased knowledge and skills in organizational leadership programs.
