Situation:
Jackson County has a high rate of health related problems. According to the 2015 County Health Rankings, Jackson County is in overall poor health as they are rated 107 out of 120 counties. With programs for limited income families, SNAP-Ed recipients, homemakers, youth and the general public, Cooperative Extension Service will continue to inform and educate concerning proper nutrition, physical fitness, weight management,safety and disease prevention.

Long-Term Outcomes:
Parents, youth, homemakers and community members will adopt safe procedures, practice good nutrition, adapt to a physical fitness lifestyle which includes weight management and disease prevention.
Intermediate Outcomes:
Parents, youth, homemakers and community members will change at least one unhealthy practice, learn at least one safe practice and try at least one new healthy nutritional food.
Initial Outcomes:
Parents, youth, homemakers and community members will become aware of unsafe practices and unhealthy behavior and seek knowledge in order to change to safe practices and healthy behavior.

Major Program: Truth and Consequences: The Choice is Yours

 More than 1,000 die each year in Kentucky from drug overdose.  According to the Overdose Fatality Report from the Office of Drug Control Policy there have been a 34 percent increase in all overdose deaths in Kentucky. A community leader from the Juvenile Justice program asked the Jackson County 4-H Council  to provide the Truth or Consequence program to the local school system. 4-H Health Rocks Steps Up/4-H It's Your Choice

Major Program: Health 4-H Core Curriculum

The 4-H Health Rocks curriculum is designed to engage youth and provide key health messages.  The target ages for youth is 8-12. This program teaches youth the decision making process to reduce tobacco, alcohol and illegal drug use.
