Situation:
The recent, local needs assessment as completed by the Healthy Choices, Healthy Communities Coalition, and the Greenup County Extension Council, has identified Substance Abuse and Obesity as the two top community issues for Greenup County.
Long-Term Outcomes:
Collaborating agencies will see a reduction in drug use and obesity reporting in the results from the KIP (Kentucky Incentives for Prevention) survey that is used in all local school systems as well as the BMI results from Health Department screenings.
Intermediate Outcomes:
As result of agency collaboration, community members of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about how they can make healthy choices in their current lives and in their future.
Initial Outcomes:
Collaboration between CEC, Agents, Program Councils, community agencies, schools, Health Dept, and elected officials, in order to unify programming planning across the county to focus on healthy lifestyle choices.

The rate of residents living in Greenup County with diabetes has risen to a rate of nearly 34%. As part of a Food Preservation Series, Greenup County Cooperative Extension in collaboration with the Diabetes Today Coalition sponsored a three session series focused on “Home Canning Basics”.  The programs focus involved teaching participants how to properly preserve a variety of foods to benefit their health and budget.
