Situation:

Beef producers are faced with the reality that locally produced forages do not supply all of the vitamin and mineral needs of beef cattle. ?Beef producers lack sufficient knowledge of the nutritional needs of beef cattle for them to be able to purchase the best vitamin and mineral supplement for their beef animals. ?Beef producers are faced with claims of different vitamin and mineral supplements that they have the best product for them to purchase for their beef animals. ?Beef producers need to attend extension educational programming to learn what the nutritional needs of their beef animals are and the most economical way to supply that nutrition to their beef animals.  

Long-Term Outcomes:

Beef producers save $5.00/50 lb. bag of mineral by group purchasing UK Beef IRM Minerals.? Animal performance is economically improved by supplying the vitamins and minerals that the animal needs .  

Intermediate Outcomes:

Beef producers purchase the optimum vitamin and mineral supplement for their beef animals.??  

Initial Outcomes:

Beef producers become aware of the nutritional needs of their animals.

Evaluation:

Initial Outcome: Beef producers become aware of the nutritional needs of their beef animals

Indicator: Beef producers complete Master Cattlemen curriculum plus advanced Master Cattlemen curriculum that is concerned with beef nutrition

Method:  Successful completion of educational sessions related to beef nutrition such as Master Cattlemen, KY Beef Quality Assurance and Care, Forage production, and beef nutrition

Timeline: 2021-2024

Intermediate Outcome: Beef producers provide the basic nutritional requirements for their beef animals

Indicator: They develop good pastures to fit the needs of their beef animals.  They also learn to purchase or grow good stored forages for their beef animals

Method: Examining mineral labels and methods of dispensing minerals to their beef animals.  Forage testing.

Timeline: 2021-2024


Long-term Outcome: Beef producers improve their profitability

Indicator: Beef producers join with other beef producers to group purchase recommended UK Beef IRM minerals that saves them $5.00/50 lb. bag.  Beef producers improve overall animal performance

Method: Farmer testimony that their farm records indicate improved overall animal performance due to adoption of recommended extension practices
