Situation:

Building the capacity of volunteer leaders is critical for the sustainability of communities that support and strengthen families. Family and Consumer Sciences Extension is committed to engaging, educating, and empowering local citizens to investigate issues, make responsible decisions, and take ownership of solutions.

Long-Term Outcomes:

Ballard County's health and economy are strengthened through strong local organizational leadership.


Community problems are solved through active engaged local leaders.

Intermediate Outcomes:

Implementation of leadership practices designed to improve successful accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives.


Employing effective practices designed to increase community support for improving community quality of life.


Initial Outcomes:

Developing skills and knowledge designed to improve personal leadership capacity

Evaluation:

Initial Outcome: Ballard Countians increase knowledge and skills in personal leadership

Indicator: number of people who indicate a change in knowledge and skills

Method: Pre and Post test

Timeline: Homemaker Leader Training in August  & other training throughout

the program year

-practice personal leadership skills in clubs, and community outreach

Upcycling Denim Class

Upcycling Denim Class

The Purchase Area Master Clothing Volunteers taught a series of Upcycling sewing classes this summer in Graves county and Calloway county. The Junior 4-H Upcycling class in Graves County was a two day event were young 4-Her's ages 9 to 14 created three projects from denim. There were twelve youth, ten girls and two boys, that participated. This was a first time for the majority using a sewing machine. The Graves county 4-H sewing club gained two new members from this class and Calloway

Ballard County FCS agent graduated from the inaugural Leadership West Kentucky class. This class was made up of 29 individuals from 14 counties in Western Kentucky. Over five months the group traveled to areas in throughout the region to discuss Agriculture, Community and Economic Development, Tourism, Industry, and more. The West Kentucky Regional Chamber Alliance launched the Leadership West Kentucky as a regional program seeking to build a network of informed citizens connected across co

Leadership Ballard Manners and Etiquette Lesson

The Ballard County 4-H program renewed the Leadership Ballard Program in the middle school. Eighteen students were peer elected for their leadership abilities. They had lessons on Team Building, Communications, Leadership Styles and Manners and Etiquette. Ballard County ANR and FCS agent taught the 18 students Manners and Etiquette as part of the leadership program.
