Today's youth are growing up in a world where everything is at their fingertips or, more specifically, the touch of their fingertips. Youth just need to tap their touchscreen phones or computers to have access to anything and everything, from social networks to shopping. There are negative and positive aspects of this technological age, creating a need for youth to learn proper communication skills, how to live a healthy lifestyle, and how to use available technologies to better their lives.
Youth of Owen County will develop and have science, engineering and technology skills that will increase self-awareness and self-esteem. Youth will put these skills to use in their careers.
Students of Owen County Schools will practice communication skills through communications contests and leadership positions in other school and 4-H clubs.
Owen County students will learn about public speaking and other communication skills.
Youth will gain an overall understanding of 4-H Youth Development and what all is offered and available to them through this program.

During 2021 the Owen County 4-H program saw a lot of growth and potential for the coming years. In August the Owen County 4-H Agent sent out a Qualtrics Survey seeking club interest for the 2022 program year, with much surprise the involvement in the survey was much more than expected. This year there have been many clubs re-start with a couple of years of being inactive due to COVID or just not having Volunteers. In February of 2022, Owen County 4-H Council sponsored 10 attendees for the Kentucky Volunteer Forum. The Forum is one of the nation’s premier volunteer training and recognition conferences. At the forum, the Owen County 4-H Youth Development Agent and a Volunteer attended a workshop hosted by the Pulaski County, Georgia 4-H Youth Development Agent, Sonya R. Jones. HEATING up at Teen ConferenceTo say that it was a hot time at Teen Conference was an understatement, with high temperatures and heat indexes it didn’t stop teens from growing leadership skills and personal growth.
