Situation:

The Kentucky Extension Community Assessment Statewide Report 2019 for Ballard County indicates that employee “soft/essential skills” training continue to be important issues within the county. Employers are having a difficult time hiring people with quality soft skills. They can find employees with technical skills and subject matter skills, but have been disappointed in their work ethic, team work approach, time management, dependability and attendance to work.

Clubs during the pandemic

Our 4-H Clubs that meet at the 4-H Office had a hybrid of in-person and kits for our clubs this year.  Our Cloverbud leaders chose to do all kits for the year.  Each month they have a special themed kit for the Cloverbuds to pick up at the Extension Office.  Topics have been natural resources, family and consumer science (cooking) and expressive arts. The Explorers Club started out meeting in person then had to transition to kits.  They plan to meet in person again in April a

21st Century Ag Fun Day

Fifty-seven youth with diverse backgrounds were educated on agriculture through the 21st Century After School Program Summer Enrichment opportunity.  Youth spent the first week learning about all aspects of agriculture including horticulture and transplanting plants; animals on the farm; where wool comes from and the uses of it; soil profiles; bees and beekeeping; agriculture related math; the limited resource, soil, for growing our food; and sun safety on the farm.  Extension professi
